Image Files

The following ClassiX® formats support image files:

.PNG
.JPG
.GIF
.TIF
.BMP
.PCX

.GIFs and .TIFs can contain multiple pictures in one file. At the moment, only the first picture gets evaluated. In other words, it is pretended that there is only one picture in the file.

.PNG ("Ping") can deal with color depth up to 32 bit (true color). The image is saved at optimum quality. .PNG is supposed to be successor for .GIF, since .GIF requires a patented compression algorithm (with costs). In contradiction to .GIF, .PNG cannot save multiple pictures in one file. For this, the format .MNG has been created (which is not yet supported in ClassiX®).

Saving as a .JPG, the image quality suffers. Pictures that are high in contrast should not be saved as .JPG, since they will be displayed with ugly artefacts. .JPGs always use the complete true-color range -therefore, 16-color-JPGs don't exist.

.GIF can contain pictures with up to 256 colors. The images are saved at optimum quality.

.TIF supports color depth up to true color and saves the image  at optimum quality.

For .BMP, the same applies as for .TIF.

Today .PCX is hardly used and therefore only mentioned to complete the list. New images should not be saved as .PCX anymore.
